Paint correction involves a range of processes used to remove minor scratches, hazing, swirl marks, water spots and other marring and blemishes on a vehicle’s clear coat. This is achieved using specialised machines, a level of skill and various cutting and polishing compounds to incrementally remove microscopic layers of clear coat until the surface is smooth and shiny.
In general terms, Stage 1 Paint Correction typically involves a cut and polish to remove up to 50% of a vehicle’s paint imperfections, Stage 2 involves heavier, typically multiple-passes of cutting and polishing to fix up to 85% of correctable paint defects. Stage 3 involves multiple steps (6 to 8 not being unusual) with our technicians employing a range of techniques and processes to chase out all correctable defects for a 95%+ defect free finish. In its most extreme form, a Stage 3 paint correction could involve multiple-levels of wet sanding using e.g. 1000, 3000, 5000 grit discs, followed by multiple stages of cutting and polishing to achieve the highly-desired mirror paint finish.
